1st January 2014
After the excellent fireworks and party atmosphere last night, everyone is in good spirits. The sun is out, the ship is staying on the level and there are loads of people sitting on the deck. Maybe the cruise is going to finish a lot better than it started
Then the announcement from the Captain came over the tannoy system. It went something along the lines of; Sorry folks, there is really bad weather on the way. We're doing our best to keep the ship out of harms way, but it means we're not going to Lisbon. Instead, we're gonna go hell for leather aiming for Le Havre and miss as much of it as possible.
O Oh! Well, we've never been the greatest fans of Lisbon anyway.

Well, the ship isn't rocking about too much at the moment, and the normal activities on board ship are continuing as usual. Peter is running his watercolour classes, and although it's got a bit choppier and greyer outside, things are not too bad.
So I'd thought I'd talk about the people we've observed on ship. For example, one lady has been catching my attention ever since we came on board. She did this on the first day by wearing a sort of leopard print beach robe even though everyone else was wrapped up in trousers and sweaters. She's worn that beach robe regularly since. The reason she catches my eye is that she sort of reminds me of Absolutely Fabulous, she always seems to have a glass in her hand and an ashtray nearby. I put her in the hardened cruiser category.
Most of time we meet people at breakfast or lunch time. The bistro gets so full, everyone looks around to share tables. Most of the time the passengers we share a table with are really nice, but today our lunch was spoilt by a very miserable couple. Alright, we often hear people complain about something or other, but this pair didn't have a good word to say about anything at all. They didn't even like the ports! Whilst we were sat, we got into conversation with a passing member of the entertainments team. We ended up discussing how bridge players and bridge clubs could be really hard work and cause all sorts of problems on board , and that their single mindedness could really difficult to deal with. The miserable couple were listening in all the time. As we left the dinner table, I wondered if the couple were bridge players............?

We've been warned that the bad weather will hit from about midnight tonight. Surely it can't be as bad as it was on our way out? Let's see what tomorrow will bring.
